Connection to Sustainability: Examining the history of environmentalism and sustainable practices world wide; Focus on cultural sustainability, the history of the built environment, and cultural heritage; Understanding how to share histories and preserve the spaces where history happened.

Research: Studying the American Civil War as a Biotic Event (Grant funded in part by American Council of Learned Societies); Research on the adaptive reuse of America's religious buildings.

Student Engagement and Outreach Activities: Volunteer work with local non-profit organizations; Internships doing historic preservation work; Internships conserving historic materials at archives, libraries, and museums; Working with local community groups to share their histories through exhibit and preservation projects.
