Connection to Sustainability: Developing cleaner processes and minimizing waste; Areas of "green chemistry" such as reduction of solvent use; Developing technology for alternative energy.

Teaching: Environmental Chemistry; Quantitative Chemical Analysis; Introduction to Chemistry; Research Methods.

Research: Analyzing environmental samples (water & sediment); Studying streams and monitoring the South Fork River below the waste water treatment plant; Hydrogen production; Photochemical water purification; Using plants for wastewater remediation; Fuel cells - studying catalysts for hydrogen production/ oxidation as an effective means of energy storage using renewable electricity produced from a variety of sources.

Student Engagement and Outreach Activities: Students are currently monitoring Boone Creek; The Chemistry Club participates in stream clean ups; Student involvement in research for the remediation and reuse of grey water from a local salon.
