Off-Campus Sites

Camp Broadstone (1431 Broadstone Road, Banner Elk, NC 28604)

Broadstone is Appalachian State University Recreation’s multi-faceted outdoor education facility operating to serve students, staff and faculty, as well as the greater region of Western North Carolina. 

By day, facilities can support and host adventures, meetings, retreats and conferences. By night, facilities can host multi-day functions allowing you to have a comfortable and professional place to return inside, while providing the opportunity to escape into the mountains of North Carolina or relax along the scenic Watauga River.

Parking & Transportation

For information about visitor parking, see parking.appstate.edu/visitor-parking or contact parking@appstate.edu or 828-262-2878. Be sure to provide the event details (date, time, location, etc.) and the approximate number of attendees/vehicles. You should also consider if you will need signage, shuttles, visitor passes and volunteers.

Invitations

Invite the Chancellor
Visit chancellor.appstate.edu/invite to invite the Chancellor.

Invite the Provost
Visit academicaffairs.appstate.edu/news-and-events/invite-provost to invite the Provost.

Invite the Dean
Contact the CAS Business Officer, Alice Fisher, at 828-262-3078 or fisheraa@appstate.edu at least four weeks prior to the event to schedule an appearance by Dean Madritch. If the dean confirms attendance to an event, an event brief and speaking engagement request is due two weeks prior to the event.

Invite Alumni or Current/Prospective Donors
Contact the CAS Director of Development, Jasmin McFayden, at 828-262-4019 or mcfaydenja@appstate.edu.

  • If assistance is needed with gathering a list of current or prospective donors to invite to your event, please provide a minimum of one month's notice.
  • If you plan to request an updated alumni list, copy Jasmin McFayden on your request.
  • If you will be charging for your event or otherwise collecting funds at your event, notify Jasmin McFayden. She will need to notify the Foundation in advance.
  • If you will be collecting funds, make certain checks are made payable to the Appalachian State University Foundation, Inc. and that details are included in the memo line for your campaign, department, etc.
  • If you will need a unique URL to assist with fundraising for your event, please provide Jasmin McFayden with a minimum of one month turnaround time to fulfill this request.

Safety

If you are planning large campus events or events that may cause concern for safety, contact the Office of Environmental Health, Safety and Emergency Management at safety@appstate.edu or 828-262-4008.

Promoting Your Event

Would you like CAS to promote your upcoming event on our website, calendar and/or social media outlets?

Please submit the Event Promotion Request Form and the CAS Communications Director, Lauren Gibbs, will be in touch. Note: Typically, at least three weeks is needed before an event to promote properly.

Social Media

To request posts/shares on the Appalachian State University social media accounts, submit this form to University Communications.

To request posts/shares on the College of Arts and Sciences social media accounts, email the CAS Communications Director, Lauren Gibbs, at gibbsla@appstate.edu.

Digital Signage

Scala is Appalachian State's enterprise solution for digital signage on campus. There are over 100 screens across campus. Any area can create and share appropriate university-wide messages to campus, even if they don't have their own Scala screen. To learn more, visit digitalsignage.appstate.edu.

If you will need additional materials for an event*, email your needs to the CAS Communications Director, Lauren Gibbs, at gibbsla@appstate.edu.

The university's recommended printer is Wallace Printing. Wallace will deliver orders to campus free of charge.

*For sufficient edits, approval and delivery, requests should be at least three weeks before the event.

Campus Outreach

  • For university and college promotion, submit the Event Promotion Request Form.
  • To reach students, create an event on Engage (engage.appstate.edu).
  • Contact other departments for possible collaboration/partnerships and promotion.
  • Contact student organizations for possible co-sponsorship.
