Non-traditional Students
App State provides resources for non-traditional students including a Trails to Success program offered through App State’s Cratis D. Williams Graduate School to provide professional development for adult learners. More information on that program can be found at graduate.appstate.edu/enrolled-students/professional-development-trails-success.
The university also offers a Non-Traditional Student Work Group that serves students who are
- 25 years old or older,
- are married,
- partnered or divorced,
- are parents or caregivers for family members, or
- are a military veteran, on reserve or active duty.

Continue Your Education
Graduate School
Consider continuing your education through graduate or professional school. Begin planning and preparing your materials. App State Online
Online classes offer both synchronous and asynchronous options, using the latest in innovative technology to provide highly interactive, engaging and academically rigorous coursework.
The Off-Campus option is for students who want face-to-face classes at a remote location away from the App State campus. Some online classes might be included. Our three main centers for off-campus classes are Appalachian Center at Hickory, Caldwell and Burke.
Returning Students
Former Appalachian State students who have a stop-out (time away from the university) who want to return to complete a degree or start a second degree must apply for readmission. There are many details about returning that you need to understand, especially if you have been away from the university for a long period of time.
