SAFE Student Spotlight: Annie Sylvester

Annie Sylvester, B.S. Physics (Secondary Education)
Student and Faculty Excellence (SAFE) Fund Recipient: Spring 2022
Project: “Automated Tracking Solar Panel”

Sylvester received a Student and Faculty Excellence (SAFE) grant to purchase necessary equipment to create a fully automated tracking solar panel. Sylvester credits the funding with making it possible to "take concepts from physics courses and apply them to tangible, experiential learning." This project contributed to App State's sustainability efforts.

Currently, Sylvester is earning her Bachelor of Science in Physics and expects to graduate in May 2024. She works with Dr. Jennifer McGee, associate professor in the App State Department of Curriculum and Instruction, on an educational research study. Sylvester enjoys sharing physics with others and looks forward to inspiring and encouraging other students to pursue areas in STEM. Upon graduation, she hopes to begin working as a high school teacher and pursue a graduate degree in education research.
