AND
Blue Ridge Parkway Wildlife Monitoring & Bat Internship
July 9 – Oct. 26, 2018
Application deadline: May 7, 2018

The National Park Service (NPS), in partnership with The Appalachian State University Liaison to the National Park Service, is accepting applications for two paid internships with the Blue Ridge Parkway. The selected applicants will be responsible for either carrying out assessments of Blue Ridge Parkway agricultural leased lands or will work with a Blue Ridge Parkway wildlife biologist to assess resident bat species.

Applicants working on agricultural lease monitoring will insure agricultural activities are not impacting natural and cultural resources. Interns will look for wetlands, streams, rare plants and animals and other natural/cultural resources within leases to assess the overall condition and health of these resources and ensure that lease holders are implementing the conditions of their agricultural special use permits. The selected applicants will enter data into appropriate databases, edit biological data on individual species and perform quality checks on data in the system. Applicants working with the Bat surveys will use acoustic monitoring tools and assist with the management and reporting of data collected during the project.

These positions will be full time (40 hrs. per week) and the selected applicants must be available for the entire period. Housing is not provided and each position pays $10-11.54 per hour. Applicants must be either current Appalachian undergraduate or graduate students, or have graduated from Appalachian since or during May 2017. Applicants must be 35 years of age or younger at the start of the position in order to comply with the position's authorization under National Park Service Youth Programs Division. No paper applications will be accepted. Applicants must possess a valid driver license, a clean driving record and be able to pass a criminal-background check.

Apply online by visiting: https://appstate.peopleadmin.com/postings/search. Only complete applications will be reviewed.
