The Appalachian Food Research for Equity, Sustainability and Health (AppalFRESH) Collaborative is a growing group of faculty, staff, and graduate students at Appalachian State University with a common interest in research, education, and engagement related to socially, economically, and ecologically viable food systems.

SPICE Lab

The SPICE (Sustainable, Physics-Inspired Culinary Education) Lab explores the thermodynamics and sustainability of cooking and the larger food system through the lens of physics.

Cooking with Purpose

Cooking with Purpose is a free, online cooking series to increase awareness about how to prepare healthful food using sustainable ingredients and techniques and to showcase ingredients that are inexpensive and typically available at App State's Mountaineer Food Hub. The program is voluntary and open to all App State students.

Climate Wayfinding Program

The Climate Wayfinding Program is an immersive learning program for students seeking clarity, courage, and community on their climate journeys. The program was developed by leading climate thinker/doer Dr.

Actuarial Science Program

The Actuarial Science (BS), offered by Appalachian State's Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, provides a foundation in mathematics and business for students wishing to pursue a career in actuarial science or a related field. The Walker College of Business provides key business courses to support the degree and departments work together to support guest speakers, student trips to conferences, and more.

Climate Stories Collaborative

The Climate Stories Collaborative is a faculty-led initiative aimed at growing the capacity of faculty and students to use a variety of creative media to tell the stories of those who are already affected by, and/or taking action to addres climate change. The project began in the College of Fine & Applied Arts, but is now university-wide in scope with engagement faculty and students from more than 20 departments.
