The Humanities Council invites proposals for reading groups on topics in the Humanities and/or at the intersections of the Humanities and non-Humanities disciplines. The reading groups are intended to foster collaborative learning amongst faculty and promote new humanities-infused research across campus, including but not limited to humanities scholars.
Funds (up to $300) may be used to purchase books and other scholarly materials to be read and discussed in a collaborative environment. The reading groups should be research-based, examine a problem or set of questions from multiple viewpoints, and have a clear plan for dissemination, which could include new scholarship or applications for external funding. Both the reading selections and the members of the group should be interdisciplinary, including but not limited to the humanities, social sciences, the arts and natural sciences.
Successful proposals will highlight interdisciplinary aspects of the proposed topic and indicate how the reading group will contribute to the wider campus. The typical reading group will include approximately 4-6 faculty members at different career stages and represent three or more disciplines. Tenured, tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty are eligible to apply.
Proposals are due by 5 p.m. on March 15, 2019.
