The College of Arts and Sciences, the largest academic college at Appalachian State University will begin the fall semester with new Associate Dean, Dr. Mark D. Bradbury.
“Mark brings a wealth of experience through his years of work with the MPA program and his work with graduate education. He understands the value of the liberal arts and its importance to create a well-informed citizenry. I’m excited to have him serve the college in his new role as Associate Dean,” said Neva J. Specht, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Bradbury is a native of Rhode Island and earned his B.A. in political science at Rhode Island College, followed by his Master’s and Ph.D. in public administration from the University of Georgia. He joined the Appalachian faculty in 2005 as a professor in the department of government and justice studies and became the program director for the master of public administration (MPA) program in 2010.
Previously Bradbury oversaw the administration of the accredited MPA program, advising 70 on-campus and distance education graduate students. He was also the co-coordinator for the department's non-profit administration certificate.
He taught public human resource management, internship and applied research courses. His research focused on issues of equal employment opportunity and ethics with public personnel administration.
He was awarded the UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2014 and has served as a member of the Academy of Outstanding Graduate Mentors since 2014. He has served as deputy chairperson of the graduate academic policies and procedures committee and completed the academic leadership development program at Appalachian.
