Administrative Support Associate
Department of English
Andie Pabón Thomas joined the Appalachian State University Department of English as the Administrative Support Associate in May 2022.
In her role, Pabón Thomas assists the chair, Dr. Leonardo Flores, and the other faculty members in the Department of English. "Some of my main responsibilities are assisting our co-chairs with the building of the new schedule for each semester; helping students with registering for courses, finding their professor’s office hours and scheduling meetings with Dr. Flores when they need; and, on occasion, scolding the copier when it refuses to print," she explained.
Recently, Pabón Thomas has taken on additional responsibilities, including serving as the business officer for the Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writers Series, working closely with Department of English faculty members Dr. Susan Weinberg, Dr. Mark Powell and Katy Abrams.
"For now, I am also acting as a temporary Office Manager for our department. I’m managing the faculty’s travel, dealing with Chrome River and many, many spreadsheets!" said Pabón Thomas.
Pabón Thomas shared that her favorite part of her job is helping people. "I joke that I’m everyone’s assistant because I love being able to help with even the simplest things, such as providing someone with a very cool and very nice pen. If I can make someone’s day a little bit easier–get one thing off their plate–I’m happy to do it," she said.
Originally from Fayetteville, Pabón Thomas graduated from App State in 2018 with her bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in creative writing.
When asked what she enjoys doing in her free time, Pabón Thomas replied, "I love to read! I know that’s very 'I graduated with an English degree' of me, but I was raised in a very literary household. A love of books and reading was cultivated in me from a very young age as I was brought up in my mother’s bookstore. I think I could read before I could talk!"
