Dr. Gary Smith will host a lecture that focuses on the dangers of relying on machines to make important decisions, and the misconception that machines are smarter than humans.

Smith is a Fletcher Jones professor, from the Department of Economics at Pomona College. He has published 15 books and over 100 academic papers. Smith specializes in financial markets and the application of statistical analysis to finance and sports. His research has been featured in various media including Forbes, New York Times and Wall Street Journal.

This lecture will focus on his work revolving around AI, big data and machine learning. Smith will explain his criticisms of their involvement within financial markets, and the potential dangers that they present when misused.
