The Visualization Lab is an interdisciplinary computer lab maintained by the College of Arts and Sciences which provides high-end processing and graphic rendering capabilities in support of education, research and outreach activities. The lab is located on the second floor of Rankin Science West in room 274.
The Computation and Visualization Lab may be reserved for meetings and presentations. The conference table seats 8 people and there is an 80" TV available for presentations. What kind of equipment is in the lab?
The lab is equipped with one Mac computer with dual monitors, five dell computers with dual monitors, and one wall-mounted 80” LCD TV. There is also a conference table that seats 8.
Who can use the Visualization lab?
The Visualization lab is a resource available to undergraduate and graduate students, staff and faculty involved in research that is computational intensive or requires visualization support. The lab is also available for meetings, presentations and outreach activities.
How do I obtain access to the lab?
You can use your AppCard to access the lab. Have your faculty mentor send a request to Scott T. Marshall (marshallst@appstate.edu) and Johnathan Sugg (suggjw@appstate.edu). Once your access request is approved, further instructions will be provided.
Can I use any computer in that lab?
Computer use should be determined based on project requirements and availability and in consultation with a faculty advisor.
How do I reserve the room?
Send a request to Scott T. Marshall (marshallst@appstate.edu) and Johnathan Sugg (suggjw@appstate.edu) and we will update the Calendar.
What if there is additional software I need to install on one of the computers?
Permanent software changes need to be requested ahead of time through Information Technology Services. The lab machines are setup to remove any changes upon reboot or bi-weekly, nighttime update cycles.
Where can I save my work?
Process data locally and move to a personal external hard-drive or a uStor drive, such as a graduate student folder (these can be accessed from the srart menu and typing "uStor" into the search box).
