Dr. René Salinas is the program coordinator for the new undergraduate Sports Analytics Certificate in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Appalachian State University.
With fall 2019 being the first semester the Sports Analytics Certificate has been offered, this talk will update the department on the program. Salinas will discuss the courses necessary for the certificate, the new Sports Modeling and Analysis course and current research projects. He will also discuss potential future collaborations and projects with the program.
This 15–hour certificate will include two data science courses in the mathematical sciences, a sports analytics course that Salinas is currently teaching, an economics of sports course that is currently offered in Appalachian’s Walker College of Business and an internship with an Appalachian sports team or an external athletic organization.
Salinas recieved a B.S. from Texas A&M University in Kingsville, Texas and a Ph.D. from University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
