Jacqui Foronda, B.S. Environmental Science
Student and Faculty Excellence (SAFE) Fund Recipient: Spring 2022
Project: “Mapping Devonian Anoxic Events in the Shine Jinst Region of Southern Mongolia”
Foronda received a Student and Faculty Excellence (SAFE) grant to cover a portion of her travel to conduct research in the southern Gobi Desert of Mongolia. According to Foronda, the findings her team uncovered in Mongolia could be “wildly important to the scientific community and even the global population at large.”
Currently, Foronda is earning her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science. She is analyzing Emsian coral reef communities as a part of Team DAGGER (Devonian Anoxia, Geochemistry, Geochronology and Extinction Research) within the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences. Foronda continues to study aerial and satellite imagery, coordinate points, stratigraphic data and samples to better understand the deposition of the rock units.
