Anna Brown '06
Administrative Support Specialist
Department of Anthropology

Anna Brown ‘06 joined the Appalachian State University Department of Anthropology as the Administrative Support Specialist in 2021.

“As the only admin in the department, I do whatever it takes to keep the department going, from making coffee to making the class schedule. I help our faculty and students travel to cool places all over the world, keep track of finances, help students register for classes, and anything else administrative you can think of,” explained Brown.

Brown spent 16 years working for local businesses in human resources and administrative management.  She is passionate about the environment and volunteered for the National Park Service for many years.

In 2022, Brown moved to Boone from Jonesborough, Tennessee to attend App State, where she acquired a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology. She fell in love with the mountains and made them her home, where she resides with her husband and two boys.

Brown said her favorite part of her role is facilitating research and learning and getting to know the students. “We have the absolute best students here at App!” she added.

In her spare time, Brown enjoys gardening, hiking, camping and playing guitar.
