BOONE, N.C. — Kaela Bray ’20 ’24 has joined the College of Arts and Sciences Advising and Support Services Hub (CASSH) as an Academic Advisor and Student Records Coordinator. In this role, she will support students as they navigate their academic goals while ensuring accurate and efficient academic record processes.
Bray is a two‑time App State alumna, holding a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in higher education. She shared that returning to App State feels deeply meaningful to her. “Appalachian has always felt like home to me,” she said. “As both an undergraduate and graduate alumna, I'm excited to give back to the university that shaped my own educational journey while helping students navigate theirs. The opportunity to work in advising, be closer to my family, and support students at an institution I care deeply about made this role the perfect fit.”
Before joining App State as a staff member, Bray served as a Senior Financial Aid Counselor at UNC Wilmington, where she supported students through the financial aid process and helped them overcome financial barriers to pursuing their education. “I am looking forward to bringing my experience in higher education and my passion for supporting students back to the Appalachian community,” she said.
Bray, a native of Wilkes County, is excited to return to the mountains she loves. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her dog, Juno, baking, reading, watching movies, and making memories with her sisters, niece, and nephews.
When asked about the best advice she’s ever received, Bray offered guidance she often shares with students: “No one’s path is linear or the same as anyone else’s. There is no single timeline or ‘right’ way to reach your goals. Each person’s journey is shaped by their own experiences and challenges. I encourage students to be patient with themselves, embrace their unique paths, and remember that their progress and success may look different from others.”
