In mid-March 2019, the Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies will be holding its first conference in Israel. The result of a partnership with the USC Shoah Foundation's Center for Advanced Genocide Research and the Holocaust Studies Program at Western Galilee College, the international conference will explore the future of Holocaust testimony.
To enable students at Appalachian State University (and especially, but not exclusively in the JHP minor) to attend, the Center will offer travel stipends (in the amount of $1,500 each). Recipients are required to attend the conference (March 11-13 2019, i.e. during the week after spring break. We will help with the permission process at Appalachian). Recipients also need to engage in research (at archives, centers and libraries) in Israel on a topic related to Jewish, Holocaust or Peace Studies. After their return, they are also required to present their findings in Boone and/or Greensboro.
The application deadline is November 2.

About the Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies
Appalachian State University’s Center for Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies was founded in 2002 to develop new educational opportunities for students, teachers and the community. Located administratively within the College of Arts and Sciences, the center seeks to strengthen tolerance, understanding and remembrance by increasing the knowledge of Jewish culture and history, teaching the history and meaning of the Holocaust, and utilizing these experiences to explore peaceful avenues for human improvement and the prevention of further genocides. The Center for Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies is an associate institutional member of the Association of Jewish Studies, a member of the Association of Holocaust Organizations and a member of the North Carolina Consortium of Jewish Studies.
