Fall Scholarship Writing Competition: Poetry and Creative Prose

Poetry, fiction, script, screenplay or creative nonfiction competition

Online entries are being accepted now through December from undergraduate students of all majors for the Fall Creative Writing Scholarship Competition, which consists of poetry and creative prose scholarships from the Marian Coe, John Foster West and Marjorie South Idol endowments. Entries consist of four poems in poetry or manuscripts of up to 23 pages in fiction, creative nonfiction or drama. Students may enter both categories separately.

Competition is open to full-time students of all years and majors. One entry in each in poetry and creative prose is permitted. The prize scholarships will be awarded for the Spring 2021 semester. The winners will be announced before the start of the spring semester.

Deadline: Tuesday, December 1, 7 p.m.

  • On a separate first page, write your name, major, Appalachian email and phone number.

  • You may submit in both poetry and prose competitions, but please keep the applications separate.

  • Proofreading and polish count!

  • Submit by email as a Word or PDF attachment to professor Mark Powell, powelljm1@appstate.edu by Tuesday, December 1 at 7 p.m.
