Dr. Cathy Marcum appointed editor of criminal justice journal

BOONE, N.C. — Dr. Cathy Marcum, department chair and professor in the Appalachian State University Department of Government and Justice Studies, has been appointed editor of Journal of Criminal Justice Education (JCJE) beginning July 3, 2023.

JCJE is the official publication of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), in which Marcum served on the executive board from 2020-23. Published four times per year, the peer-reviewed academic journal provides a forum for the examination, discussion and debate of a broad range of issues concerning post-secondary education in criminal justice, criminology and related areas.

Marcum received her B.S. in Criminal Justice from West Virginia State University, her M.S. in Criminal Justice from Marshall University and her Ph.D. in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She joined the App State Department of Government and Justice Studies in 2012 and was promoted to full professor in 2020. In 2022, Marcum was announced as chair of the department.

Marcum's teaching and research focus on correctional issues, cybercrime and victimization. She has published over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and 20 books in her fields. Previously, Marcum served as the editor of the journal Corrections: Policy, Practice and Research

Marcum enjoys working with students and has taught a variety of courses in her areas of expertise, including an undergraduate course on correctional systems, an honors seminar on cybercrime and a graduate course on crime policy and legislation.
