The number of English learners in North Carolina is on the rise. Dr. Anthony Fernandes, an associate professor of Mathematics at UNC Charlotte, will be discussing his research on the comprehension of mathematical content for students who are working toward English proficiency. At this event, Fernandes will prepare future teachers with the skills necessary to best serve this segment of the classroom population.

Fernandes received his Ph.D. in Mathematics/Mathematics Education at the University of Arizona, Tucson. He has studied education and mathematics, and taught educators surrounded by students who are gaining English proficiency, extensively.

This event is sponsored by the Department of Mathematical Sciences. For any questions, please contact Dr. Quinn Morris (morrisqa@appstate.edu) or Dr. Travis Weiland (weilandtj@appstate.edu).
