The College of Arts & Sciences at Appalachian State University is home to 16 academic departments, one academic program, two centers and one residential college spanning the humanities and the social, mathematical and natural sciences. Applications are now open for the 2021-22 academic year with a deadline of Wednesday, March 17, 2021. Sally A. Callegari Memorial Scholarship for Gender Diversity in Animal Studies
This scholarship provides support to an undergraduate student with demonstrated personal or research experiences of sexism, or who demonstrate an interest in the advancement of women in the sciences through their own work/activism, and who demonstrate a commitment to ending gender-based discrimination to enter into a profession that includes an interest in the wellbeing of animals (i.e. veterinary medicine, biology, animal welfare, primatology, etc.)
Drs. Joanne Smith and Don R. Brannon Scholarship for Natural Sciences
This scholarship provides support to undergraduate or graduate students who have been admitted for enrollment, or are currently enrolled, and are in good academic standing. Awards shall be made to students majoring in a natural sciences program, with a preference for those majoring in Mathematics, Chemistry or Biology. It is the preference of the Donors that the recipients are residents of the mountain region of North Carolina and have demonstrated financial need.
Richard A. Thomas Memorial Scholarship for Arts and Sciences
This scholarship was established as a memorial to Richard A. Thomas. The scholarship guidelines specify that applicants must demonstrate a verifiable need for financial support and that a financial aid form must be on file.
Jonathan K. Perryman Endowed Memorial Scholarship for the Sciences
This scholarship was established in memory of Jonathan K. Perryman by family members, friends and colleagues.
Applicants must be full-time students, rising juniors and seniors and majoring in either Biology, Chemistry and Fermentation Sciences, Geological and Environmental Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Mathematical Sciences or Computer Science. Applicants must demonstrate satisfactory performance of at least a 3.0 grade point average.
GlaxoSmithKline Women in Science Scholars Endowment
The Glaxo Foundation established an endowment that makes available two $1000 scholarships for full-time women students at Appalachian who are majoring in and planning a career in the sciences. The purpose of the endowment is to recognize outstanding scholarship, to provide an incentive for women science students to enter the science profession, and to provide students with a woman scientist mentor at Glaxo.
The Peggy Harmon Shore Pre-Health Care Professional Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Gary Shore, in honor of his wife, Peggy Harmon Shore. The scholarship recognizes outstanding scholarship and provides support to a student seeking a career in the healthcare profession.
