Inaugural Emerging Filmmakers Showcase

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University's AppDocs and Department of Communication are pleased to host the inaugural Emerging Filmmakers Showcase on Tuesday, February 24, from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at the Greenbriar Theatre in the Plemmons Student Union on App State's Boone campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
Nine films produced by students and alumni from the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Fine and Applied Arts — including narrative, experimental, animated, and promotional pieces — will be screened. The screenings will be followed by a filmmakers panel moderated by Rosalie McCracken, a senior English secondary education major and Appalachian Heritage Council Chairperson for the Appalachian Popular Programming Society.

AppDocs supports documentary work grounded in collaborative local and global partnerships that use photography, film/video, audio, and writing to capture and convey memory, life, research, theory, and culture. AppDocs offers workshops about basic documentary skills, assistance disseminating documentary projects and general consultation on documentary work. About the Department of Communication
One of seven departments housed in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, the Department of Communication at Appalachian State University focuses on preparing students to succeed in the varied fields within the communication industry. The department offers five majors – advertising, communication studies, electronic media/broadcasting, journalism and public relations – and a minor in communication studies.
