BOONE, N.C. — The Appalachian State University College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is pleased to welcome Mary Beth Crass to the Dean's Office as a University Program Associate. Read below to learn more about Crass and her fellow University Program Associates, Dief Alexander and Mac Glaze '21.

Mary Beth Crass
Mary Beth Crass is the newest member of the Dean's Office, joining as a University Program Associate in August 2024. In her role, Crass is responsible for reviewing and approving travel requests for CAS.
Crass earned her bachelor's degree in art history from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a certificate in decorative techniques and restoration from City and Guilds of North America via Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.
Previously, Crass served as the administrative support specialist in the Alliance for Research on Regional Colleges and as the administrative support associate for the Department of Art at Appalachian State. "Having grown up in a college town, I realize the importance of the relationship between the university and the community," shared Crass. "A strong relationship is beneficial to both the students and their wider community."
When asked about the best advice she's ever received, Crass answered, "You never know what someone may be going through, so be kind."

Dief Alexander
Dief Alexander joined the CAS Dean's Office as a University Program Associate in November 2023. Alexander provides administrative assistance for the Dean's Office, processes dean's recommendation forms for non-tenure track faculty members, oversees the college's speaker fund, supervises student employees and manages the budget for several CAS programs, including the Morgan Science Lecture and Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writers Series.
Alexander holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Melbourne. Previously, he worked in administrative positions in the Department of Philosophy and Religion and the Office of Sustainability at Appalachian State and the Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Mac Glaze '21
Mac Glaze '21 joined the Dean's Office as a University Program Associate in December 2023. Glaze provides administrative assistance for the Dean's Office, processes dean's recommendation forms for adjunct faculty members, schedules candidate interviews and assists with several CAS programs, including the Faculty and Staff Awards Luncheon in the Fall and the Senior Awards Ceremony in the Spring.
Glaze is an alumnus of both CAS and the Beaver College of Health Sciences, earning his bachelor's degrees in psychology and social work from Appalachian State. Previously, Glaze served as the customer service and support specialist in Appalachian's Career Development Center.
In his free time, Glaze enjoys listening to music, reading and spending time with his cat, Bug.
