BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University's Department of Government and Justice Studies (GJS) will host Elect Her on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 1-4 p.m. in the Summit Trail Solarium, Plemmons Student Union.
Elect Her is a candidate training workshop presented in cooperation with Running Start, a national leadership development organization. The goal of the half-day program is to equip young people with the tools they need to kickstart their political journey, whether on campus or in the community.
This year's event is co-organized by Dr. Ellen Key, professor in GJS, and Dr. Alixandra Yanus, Daniel German Visiting Distinguished Professor in GJS. It will feature two local women - Republican and Democrat - who have turned their dreams into reality:
Deanna Ballard, former North Carolina state senator
Loretta Clawson, former Town of Boone mayor
The event is free and open to all students, regardless of partisanship, sex, or gender identification. For a disability accommodation, visit odr.appstate.edu.
