BOONE, N.C. — Two Appalachian State University alumnae have joined the College of Arts and Sciences Advising and Support Services Hub (CASSH). Dalton Akos '21 '22, an alumna of both the Department of Biology and Department of Geography and Planning, serves as a Student Records Coordinator in Boone. Emily Cunningham '21, an alumna of App State's Department of Counseling, Family Therapy and Higher Education, serves as an Academic Advisor in Hickory.
Located on the first floor of I.G. Greer Hall on App State's Boone Campus, CASSH is staffed by professional advisors and records specialists who serve current and prospective students, as well as faculty and staff in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at App State. Students are encouraged to visit the office for assistance with academic planning and questions, registration, and senior checks from a team of staff members.

What are your responsibilities in your new role?
"I'm responsible for reviewing student records and communicating and collaborating with students and faculty to maintain individual academic progress and integrity throughout CAS."
Why Appalachian?
"I've never felt more supported or at home at an institution! I was excited to be able to continue to contribute to the school that I was able to get so much out of while pursuing my degrees."
What are your interests or hobbies outside of work?
"Yoga, reading, crafting, and cooking!"
What is the best advice you were ever given or advice you like to share with students?
"Build relationships with the faculty and staff around you!"
Is there anything else you would like to share?
"As a student at Appalachian, I was a Campus Tour Guide, an Appalachian Student Ambassador, and a Resident Assistant!

"I do academic advising for all CAS students at the Hickory Campus. I also assist the Boone team with records management (change of programs, new majors, graduation audits, senior checks, and graduation clearances)."

"I was really excited about being a part of the new campus in Hickory."
What are your interests or hobbies outside of work?
"Traveling, cooking, and hanging out with family."
What is the best advice you were ever given or advice you like to share with students?
"It's okay to change your mind when it comes to majors and career paths."
