The CAS Corps, a new college ambassador program comprised of students selected from an application process that will represent the College of Arts and Sciences at events through interaction among current students, future students, parents, donors and alumni to create, promote and execute opportunities for academic and professional growth. We have 12 students from 11 different departments spanning the areas of study in the college.

Please support our faculty and students today by celebrating the past and investing in the future. The Student and Faculty Excellence (SAFE) Fund provides resources that can be used to transform the undergraduate and graduate experience and support faculty teaching, research and engagement.

Multiple departments across the university are collaborating with area museums and other venues to host exhibits, lectures and workshops that will highlight the importance of Black Mountain College’s influence within the Appalachian region’s creative, educational and political movements. The spring 2018 semester will address the legacy of BMC through three interrelated projects that will explore the theme of “Place and Change." R. T. Smith
Outstanding Alumni Award
|
|
Smith graduated from Appalachian State University in ’75 with an M.A. in English and has since published 15 collections of poetry, six volumes of short fiction and three literary anthologies. He is the former editor of the Southern Humanities Review, as well as former alumni writer-in-residence at Auburn University and founder of the literary journal, Cold Mountain Review, which is still in print today at Appalachian. He is currently the writer-in-residence at Washington and Lee and has edited Shenandoah: The Washington and Lee University Review since 1995, receiving a 2008 Virginia Governor’s Arts Award for publishing excellence.
