Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies holds 21st Annual Rosen Symposium July 7-13

BOONE, N.C. — The 21st Annual Martin and Doris Rosen Symposium, supported by the Claims Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, the Martin and Doris Rosen Symposium Endowment, and the local Jewish community, will be held July 7-13, 2023 on the campus of Appalachian State University.

The theme of this year's symposium is "The Holocaust and Lessons for Today," guided by the quote “The Holocaust is not just Jewish history; it is humanity’s history and we must understand it if we are to prevent it from happening again." The event is organized by Amy Hudnall, interim director of App State's Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies, and Lee Holder, member of the North Carolina Council on the Holocaust.

For over two decades, the Rosen Symposium has brought educators from across the country together to learn about the Holocaust and how to teach it. Participants will kick off the week by attending a Shabbat Service led by Rabbi Alty at the Temple of the High Country and spend the remaining days learning from renowned scholars of the Holocaust through workshops, lectures and discussions.

In addition to the teaching workshops, the symposium features a variety of hybrid events that are free and open to the public:
