The Dark Sky Observatory
The Dark Sky Observatory will have activities leading up to the solar eclipse that include daytime tours with solar viewing every day during July, and two nighttime public events in the evening at DSO series. The daytime tours and viewing will depend on the weather and other factors, the daily event status will be posted on the DSO web page at www.dso.appstate.edu and on the Dark Sky Observatory Facebook page and Twitter feed. The daytime events are free and do not require tickets. Free solar viewing glasses will be given out at all July events! There will be no event on the day of the solar eclipse since it will only be a partial eclipse as viewed from DSO.

Live streaming of the eclipse from a location of totality, telescopes on the Mall and a life size planetarium to experience on this last day of summer and the day before fall semester classes begin.
Eclipse times in Boone:
- Ingress - 1st sight of Moon on solar disk - 1:10pm
- Greatest partial eclipse ~ 95% coverage - 2:36pm
- Egress - Moon completely leaves solar disk - 4:01pm
At our partner institution where our live stream of totality will be recorded, join in the many activities going on, if you are in the area.
Southwestern Community College
The main attractions are the wide-field refractor with a Mylar (white light) filter, which will be streaming the eclipse at cas.appstate.edu/solar-eclipse-2017, as well as the Appalachian-Cain Eclipse-Viewing Station, which will take images of the eclipse every several seconds and will video the eclipse on occasion where visitors can watch together on a monitor.
In addition, a white light solar telescope and a Hydrogen-Alpha solar telescope will be available for solar viewing. They will also distribute solar viewing glasses to all on campus participants.
