Staff Shout Out monthly drawing winner
Appalachian State University Staff Shout Out program
BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University technology support specialist Clint Nelson has been named the winner of the Appalachian Staff Shout Out program’s November drawing.
Nelson, who serves as lead technology support specialist for the university’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), is one of 936 Appalachian staff members who have been recognized for their Shout Out-worthy service to the university since January.
In her November Staff Shout Out to Nelson, Ellen Gwin Burnette, CAS director of marketing, communication and engagement, described Nelson as “the resident expert and most helpful man of tech.”
“He is always on the move, helping across the span of buildings that the College of Arts and Sciences inhabits,” she added. “I think folks in IT and support are those behind the scenes who probably receive the least recognition, but they are some of the most important members of our team. He is an integral part of the college, keeping us all functioning, updated and at work.”
“It’s an honor to be recognized and to know my work is appreciated,” Nelson said. “Customer service is very important to me, and I strive to assist users in a quick, efficient and thorough manner.”
The Staff Shout Out program, an informal recognition initiative created by Staff Senate’s Staff Recognition Committee, aims to highlight Appalachian staff members for their positive contributions to the university. The committee works to improve employee engagement and encourage an environment of support and appreciation.
Examples of actions for which Appalachian staff members have received Shout Outs:
- Going above and beyond to help a fellow co-worker or student.
- Picking up trash on campus grounds just because.
- Encouraging recycling among officemates.
- Having an infectious positive attitude.
- Taking initiative.
- Helping a co-worker complete a task voluntarily.
- Random acts of kindness.
Recipients of a Shout Out are notified the month following their nomination and receive a card detailing why they were nominated, which is handwritten and personally delivered by a member of Staff Senate. Each recipient is also entered into a monthly drawing for a gift from the University Bookstore.
Nelson will receive a gift from the University Bookstore valued at $25 as part of his drawing prize.
