"Most of our students are not poor, and they are not from poor families. I wanted them to have the real experience of poverty. The students are very affected by it, and they become very enthusiastic in trying to do something about it."
Professor Jeffrey Bortz teaches students in History about issues related to poverty by combining text and practical experience. He works with the Hospitality House in Boone to explore experiences of poverty, taking students out of theory and into reality. Our History department offers:
- History (BA)
- History (BS) - Applied & Public History
- History (BS) - Multidisciplinary
- History (BS) - Social Studies Education
- History (minor)
- History: Master of Arts (MA)
